Metta Lillie

1709 - 1788

Sweden

Metta Lillie was the eldest daughter of a colonel and was born and grew up in Västergötland. She wrote a diary from 1737 to 1750 when she married a widower, Johan Gustaf Natt och Dag, who had six adolescent children. When she became a widow in 1760, she continued to live on her husband’s estate until her death in 1788.

Her diary, which exists only in manuscript form, contains mostly information relating to family and financial matters; however, contemporary politics and religion are also central themes.
