Lempi Jääskelainen

1900 - 1964

Finland

Lempi Jääskelainen wrote around thirty historical novels set in her Karelian home town of Viborg. She passed the upper secondary school leaving examination in 1921, but had to break off her archaeology and history studies at the University of Helsinki due to a heart problem.

Her works include a serial novel depicting the fate of a powerful family in the colourful and distinctive eighteenth century Viborg, the first part entitled Weckroothin perhe, 1930. The central themes are the inner loneliness of women, the contrast in men’s and women’s approach to things, and love for children.
