Inge Haagensen was a grocer’s daughter from Næstved and lived with relatives in Karlslunde and Fredericia after her mother’s death in 1932. After taking preliminary exams, she entered domestic service and trained as a children’s nurse. She married in 1940, had three children, and divorced in 1972. In 1948 she made her debut with the poetry collection Blindede Øjne, which as her key work, conveys a religiously borne belief in the meaning of suffering. Her main works are the novels Pigen med modermærket, 1950, Derhen, hvor du ikke vil, 1961, De udsatte, 1963, and the poetry collection Skæbne, 1965.
