Herdís Andrésdóttir published her books jointly with her twin sister Ólina Andrésdóttir. She was born in western Iceland, where she grew up, married, and had many children. The two sisters’ first publication was the collection of poems Ljóðmæli, 1924, which was reprinted several times in an extended and revised edition. They employed traditional forms in their writing, and wrote accounts of peasant women’s lives and experiences.
