Alba Schwartz grew up in Skagen, which she wrote about in Skagen før og nu, 1912-1913. She trained at the Royal Danish Theatre, and her debut publication was a short story published in the periodical Det nye Aarhundrede in 1907. Throughout the 1930s, she wrote a series of novels, in particular about children’s problems, such as Barnet. Synd – Forsoning – Nemesis, 1935, and Edith søger en Far, 1938. Her best known book Skilsmissens Børn, 1936, was filmed in 1939.
