Anne Giøe

1609 - 1681

Denmark

Anne Giøe was born at Turebygård on Zealand and grew up in the learned atmosphere of scholarly debate at Rosenholm in Jutland, the home of Sophie Brahe and Holger Rosenkrantz. Throughout her life she lived with relatives, spending her final years with her brother’s daughter Susanne Giøe.

Anne Giøe built up a collection of books comprising one thousand or so volumes, which became the basis for the library of her niece Karen Brahe. The collection contains many works by Danish women, both printed and handwritten, and many with notes by Anne Giøe. It largely consists of devotional books and other Christian literature besides geographical and historical works.
