Ingrid Andersson was born into a working-class community in Norrland and published her debut work, Två berättelser, about ordinary life in former times and the people of southeastern Norrland, at the age of fifty-seven.
The desire to capture a dying culture for posterity is the prime motivation behind her writing, which includes the autobiography Barnet. Bland timmerflottare på Lövudden, 1979, and the popular Ensamheten, 1976, a novel about the issue of care for the elderly.
