Carine Rehbinder

1803 - 1875

Norway

Carine Rehbinder was born in Christiani and was the daughter of a merchant. She received private tuition in languages from the memoir author Conradine Dunker. In 1814, her father bought Borregaard, one of the biggest estates in Norway. She lived there until her marriage in 1828 to Gustav Rehbinder, officer and adjutant of the Swedish Crown Prince, later King Oscar I.

In Barndoms og Ungdoms Erindringer/nedskrevne af Oberstinde Rehbinder, which covers the period up to 1837 and was published by her daughters in 1915, she relates the story, for children, of the years before and after 1814 and her first years in Stockholm.
