Greenland

Mariane Petersen was born in Maniitsoq, trained as a translator, and works as an assistant curator at the Greenland National Museum. Her first poetry collection Niviugaq aalakoortoq allallu, 1988, was nominated for the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize in 1993. In the same year, she published Inuiaat nunaallu, an epic poem about the history of Greenland. One of Greenland’s best translators, she has translated works such as Vinterbørn by Dea Trier Mørch and Århundradets kärlekssaga by Märta Tikkanen. She is also known in Greenland for her political commitment and her courage and has also sat on the Nuuk Municipal Council.
