Marie Ragnhild Takvam was born and grew up on a farm on Norangdal, Sunnmøre. She studied psychology, was a well-known radio voice on children’s programmes in the 1960s, and played in Vibeke Løkkeberg’s film “Åbenbaringen”, 1977.

Marie Takvam made her debut in 1952 with the poetry collection Dåp under sju stjerner, which was direct and sensuous. Among the high points of her oeuvre are Merke etter liv, 1962, Auger, hender, 1975, and Falle og reise seg att, 1980. Marie Takvam considered the life of women from the perspective of society and existence, and central themes in her poems are the life cycle of the body, desire, and birth.
