Barbro Pilkrog was born in Järna, where her parents ran a café. She studied in Uppsala and graduated in 1963. Her poetry collections Tendens mot ljuset, 1963, and Dikter från det himmelska Egypten och satser om döden, 1965, caught the public’s attention due to their original and suggestive imagery, and she became known for representing a new, quiet, subdued poetry. In a series of deeply sensitive poems, she deals with the theme of loneliness and isolation.
