Þóra Jónsdóttir

1925 -

Iceland

Þóra Jónsdóttir grew up in northern Iceland, but moved to Reykjavik, where she worked as a teacher and librarian. Her debut work Leit að tjaldstæði (P) was published in 1973, and she has since published a number of poetry collections, such as Læsnætur, 1995.

The poems’ search for a place to be, for identity, often leads to a dead end, and they are modernist in their theme and form. She has also written poems about nature, children, and childhood.
