Birita Jacobsdatter á Mýri was a farmer’s daughter from Vágur in Suðeroy, married to Jógvan á Mýri. She was widowed in 1855 and was a talented singer of ballads. There are many recordings of her songs, including “Margretu kvæði” in Corpus Carminum Færoensium. Færoya kvæði, which only exists in Faroese and Icelandic.
She sang it for the Faroese folklorist V. U. Hammershaimb in 1849.
