Ruth Anna Helena Halldén was born in Sundsvall as the daughter of director Erland Dahlström and Olga Andersson, studied in Uppsala, and graduated in 1951. She published the poetry collections Hus utan trädgård, 1959, and Landskap i gult och guld, 1963; however, she was known first and foremost as a productive and outstanding literary and theatre critic for the newspaper Dagens Nyheter. A number of Ruth Halldén’s reviews are published in En bra bok. Femtio förslag, 1991. In 1997 she published the essay collection Vid romanens rötter.
