Ebba Maria de la Gardie was the daughter of member of the Rigsråd, Council of the Realm, and Chief of the High Court of Dorpat (today Tartu in Estonia) Pontus Fredrik de la Gardie and Beata Elisabet von Königsmarck and, like her sister Johanna Eleonora de la Gardie, belonged to the social circle of Queen Ulrika Eleonora the elder.
Her poetry in the manuscript Der Nordischer Weihrauch, which can be found at Uppsala University Library, consists of traditional celebratory poems and poetic texts which, among other things, consider the female poet’s longing for true, spiritual freedom.
