Solveig Christov was born in Drammen and was an office clerk before she married the publishing editor Harald Grieg, with whom she had two children.

Her debut novel Det blomstrer langs blindveien was published in 1949. Her works vary in style from psychological, realist novels about characters seen through the lens of war, such as her novels Syv dager og netter, 1955, and Elskerens hjemkomst, 1961, to allegorical accounts such as Torso (N), 1952, and Demningen (N), 1957, about the world crisis and the need for individual responsibility. She finds hope of  change with artists, the half-mad, and mothers. She also wrote several plays and short stories.
