Ólína Andrésdóttir is always mentioned together with her twin sister Herdís Andrésdóttir. She was born and grew up in western Iceland, and had an illegitimate daughter. The two sisters’ joint collection of poems Ljóðmæli, 1924, was reprinted several times in an extended and revised edition. Using traditional lyrical forms, the poems describe the lives and experiences of peasant women. Ólina Andrésdóttir became known in her own right for rhyming narratives containing sensitive descriptions of inner life and unresolved longing.
