Marianne Alopaeus

Marianne Alopaeus grew up in a Finland-Swedish family in Ekenäs on the south coast of Finland. She has spend many years abroad, among other places in the U.S. and France. She became known through her novel Mörkrets kärna of 1965, which depicts a modern, liberated woman who has rejected marriage and children in favour of the life of an intellectual moving in international circles. The book attracted much attention in Finland and Sweden, was translated into several languages. Her other works include her debut novel Uppbrott, 1945, Betraktelser kring en gräns, 1971, and her non-fiction work Drabbad av Sverige, 1983.
