Vilhelmine Zahle was a schoolmistress and for a short time a writer. Her father was the radical clergyman and Member of Parliament P. C. Zahle. She was born in Copenhagen, grew up with her grandparents, trained as an actress, but ended up becoming a teacher, and married in 1891. After her divorce in 1905, she travelled with her daughter, who became an actress, and her daughter's daughter throughout Europe. She remarried in 1918.
Her debut collection Vildsomme Veje, 1890, contains two stories about the erotic love of young girls, “wild ways” referring to lesbianism and unfaithfulness.
