Iben Claces grew up in Frederiksberg. From 1992 to 1994, she attended the Forfatterskolen (writers’ school) and from 1995 studied literature at the University of Copenhagen.
Her debut collection Tilbage bliver, 1994, which consists of four poem cycles, are brief, often wistful, poems about the difficulty of life’s periods of transition – from childhood to adolescence, from adolescence to adulthood – and about the impossibility of getting through to a loved one in a relationship. These experiences and explorations are continued in the collection En fremmed selv (P), 1995. She received the BogForum prize for debut authors in 1994.
