Karin Helga Moe was born in Skien. She graduated, majoring in French, and has been influenced by the French nouveau roman and French feminist theory.

Karin Moe’s debut work was Kjønnskrift, which consisted of prose texts and poetry and was published in 1980. She published a collection of texts under the title 39 FYK. Louise Labé den yngres ustyrtelige vandringer & andre spekulum in 1983. She continued to mix genres, experiment with language, and criticise contemporary culture in her novel Kyka. Ein kriminell roman for ei stemma og kor/kai; 1984. Niklas Eggers aborterte skrifter, 1984, and in Mordatter. Opp(dikt) frå datterskapet, 1985, she continues her linguistic exploration of the problem of gender. Her short story collection Kvinner in Nynorsk (New Norwegian) was published in 1980 and was followed in 1986 by Sjanger, in which the author looks at the literary institutions of the 1980s and not only writes her own literary programme, but also her version of the history of contemporary literature.

Her two novels Blove 1. bok, 1990, and Blove. 2. bok. Romaner for språk, PC og Rosa K., 1993, mark a high point in her writing. With linguistic brilliance, she combines gender issues with an experimental, literary identity project with overtones of linguistic philosophy. Her Blove books present an overexcited, satirical, passionate torrent of language and an avant-garde rebellion against patriarchal dogmatism and egocentrism. In 1995 she published the essay collection Jo. Å lesa bibelen 1995. Eit preludium til Blove 3. bok i høve 1000-årsjubileet på Moster.
