Norway

Elisabeth Dored was born and grew up in Idd, married the film reporter John Dored, and made her debut in 1955 with the publication of the memoirs of her husband’s life, For meg er jorden rund. This was succeeded by three historical novels, all set in Roman times, Jeg elsket Tiberius (1959, Eng. tr. I Loved Tiberius), Den fønikiske trappen, 1963, and Pilatus og nasareeren, 1967. The first book of the trilogy is the best known and is a portrayal of the society and political intrigues of ancient Rome by Julia, daughter of Emperor Augustus, providing a historical account from a female perspective in similar fashion to other contemporary women’s novels.
