Eva-Lena Neiman

1955 -

Sweden

Eva-Lena Neiman was born into a working-class family in a mining community in southern Dalarna and works as a journalist specialising in environmental issues, which is reflected in her debut work Som harar dansar (N), 1984. Her characters are influenced by her environmental interests and childhood landscape, also in her other novels, such as the contemporary novel Astrid och Ambrosius, 1991. Two peculiar people with a powerful longing for words, but also for nature’s mysterious quiet, undertake a classic journey from their childhood village to the big city.

The consistent theme is the conflict between modernity and nostalgia for home. In Inneboende (N), 1995, she again depicts a dilemma of the modern age: the present-day exile of people in the dreary suburbs.
