Jónsdóttir, Gunnhildur

Written by:  Rita Pedersen

Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir was old and ill when she passed on rhymes, legends, tales, and folk-songs to the farmer's son Brynjólfur Jónsson on Minni Núpur, where she lived as a pauper in a poorhouse. Her relatively few ballads are fragmentary, but she sometimes relates the plot of the ballad in prose form and gives it her personal touch.
