Iversdatter á Skála, Anna Sofie

Written by:  Malan Marnersdóttir

Anna Sofie Iversdatter á Skála was a farmer's wife in Vágur on Suðuroy, married at the age of sixteen, and had two children. She knew the old folk-song traditions and passed on four folk-songs, of which three focus on the relationship between man and woman.

Not much information exists about her; however, it is said that sometimes when it was cold, and the sermon and the hymn had been long, the members of the parish went to her farm, where they laid down their hymn books, danced a ring dance, and sang a few verses of a lengthy ballads to get warm. Then they took up their hymn books again and went home.
