Hermannsdóttir, Jensína Henríetta (pseud. Henríetta frá Flatey)

Written by:  Dagný Kristjánsdóttir

Jensína Henríetta Hermannsdóttir was born and grew up in Flatey near Breiðafjörður. She was married to a poor farmer and had nine children. Her sole work Rökkurstundir, 1929, consists of two lengthy short stories, the latter pointing out in an original manner the potentially disastrous consequences of women caring for others and thereby sacrificing themselves. She stands for many forgotten, single-work authors in Icelandic literature.
